National Construction Safety Excellence Award (CSEA)
06.29.09
Building on an already well documented and award winning history of project safety, Charter Builders raised their record to a national level by bringing home first place in the 2009 Construction Management 100,000-500,000 man-hours category of the Construction Safety Excellence Award (CSEA) from the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC). The AGC is the largest national construction trade association in the United States and recognizes construction companies that have excelled in safety and health performance.
In 2008 Charter performed more than 307,497 man hours under its stringent safety program, taking home the 2009 Dallas Chapter of the AGC award for Excellence in Safety for the seventh time in nine years. Having won the chapter's division, Charter's program, along with safety program winners from 94 other AGC chapters, was submitted to the National AGC Safety and Health Committee. Charter was chosen as one of three finalists to compete for national honors at the National AGC safety competition held in San Diego in March 2009.
"It's a tremendous honor to see what results the dedication and hard work of over 175 people coming together for a common cause can create," says Charter Senior Superintendent Tom Hinton. "To have our efforts acknowledged by our industry peers is the icing on the cake."
Judges for the AGC's CSEA look for evidence of company management commitment, active employee participation, safety training, on-site hazard identification and innovative control and safety programs. Each company's commitment to safety and occupational health management and risk control is closely examined.
"Our safety program empowers all employees to embrace personal responsibility for their actions and the positive impact those actions can have on others. I am delighted that our passion for and commitment to providing a safe workplace has been recognized with such a significant honor." states Charles E. DeVoe III, president of Charter. "This award is a testament to the caliber and character of each member of our team."
