Paris Junior College System

Multi-Purpose Academic Building in Greenville, Texas

Paris Junior College chose Charter Builders, LTD. once again as their construction manager at risk for the new $3 million Student Residence Complex to be constructed on its existing main campus at 2400 Clarksville Street, Paris, Texas. Phase one of the project includes the construction of a new two-story, thirty bedroom residence hall building with attendant resident advisor apartment, commons area, group study areas, laundry, vending machine areas, and a student-use kitchen. The total floor area of the new building is approximately 18,500 SF. This is the second project for Charter and Paris Junior College in a span of two years.

The building is planned to be a steel-framed masonry-wall structure with a suspended structural foundation and composite steel/concrete upper floor systems. The roof will be a modified bitumen membrane roofing system over rigid insulation. Exterior wall finishes include face brick and stucco veneers, glazed curtain wall systems, and operable aluminum windows. Interior materials include painted concrete block partitions, painted drywall partitions, ceramic wall tile, suspended painted gypsum board ceilings, suspended acoustical lay-in ceilings, and carpet-vinyl composition tile. Heating and air conditioning systems shall be both constant and variable air volume systems connected to the College’s existing 4-pipe hot and chilled water loop and central plant. Fire protection shall be provided using a wet-pipe fire sprinkler system. Site work consists of grading and earthwork in the immediate area of the building, concrete walks, minor paving modifications to the existing driveway and parking lots, and extensions of existing site utility systems in accordance with the College’s Master Plan.

In August of 2008 Charter Builders and Paris Junior College dedicated a new two-story 41,415 SF, $9.8 million, multi-purpose academic building which houses state-of-the-art science and computer labs, library, large meeting rooms, classrooms and administrative offices.

The campus is located on land just west of Greenville High School at the intersection of Monty Stratton Parkway and Lion’s Lair. The new facility can serve up to 2,500 students. Students attending Paris Junior College may obtain an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or an Associate of Applied Science degree, or workforce and continuing education certificates.

The new facility provides the community of Greenville greater flexibility to do more now, and into future. Its completion is an important step in better meeting the educational needs of Greenville and Hunt County citizens.
